This course introduces EFL students to English phonetics and phonology. With an emphasis on articulatory phonetics, it provides them with an essential background about the organs of speech as well as the different articulatory parameters for all English sounds. Students, then, are introduced to some basic aspects of connected speech such as assimilation, elision and linking as well as to other important related notions like phonemes, allophones, broad and narrow transcription. By providing the basic knowledge of the English sound system, the course allows EFL students to pronounce English sounds and words correctly. 

A broad definition of academic writing is any writing done to fulfill a requirement of a college or university. Hence, this course is an introduction to scholarly (Academic) writing. It provides third year students with descriptions and techniques of the type of writing they are going to us when writing their research or any writing assignment given in an academic setting (e.g. Books and book reports, Translations, Essays, Research paper or research article, Conference paper, Academic journal, Dissertation and Thesis - These are written to obtaining an advanced degree at a college or university, Abstracts...etc)
