This physics 2 course (electricity and magnetism) was written for students preparing for a degree in the fields of Material Sciences and Science and Technology. It complies with the official program.
It is taught in one semester, with three hours of lessons per week, supplemented by one and a half hours of tutorials and one and a half hours of practical work. The content of the program proposed by the supervision is relatively vast, to be covered in a single semester, the teacher must then limit himself in important developments and it is up to the student to make an additional effort to take charge of these developments.
This course is essential for the technology student. The course is divided into four parts: mathematical reminders; electrostatic; electrical circuits; magnetostatic. In the first part, the student learns to use mathematical tools to best characterize the physical and geophysical fields that we are required to describe: definition of new scalar and vector operators intended to simplify the analysis of the physical problem considered. In the second part, we study electric forces, electric fields and electric potential in electrostatic situations. In the third part, we analyze the movement of electrical charges in circuits composed of capacitors, resistors and voltage sources. Finally, in the fourth part, we examine the sources of the magnetic field and the behavior of electric charges in the presence of a magnetic field.
