This  aims to develop an understanding of the various issues related to Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in education. It focuses on how ICT can support distance education and open learning to help achieve the educational goals outlined in the New Education Policy (1986), particularly for the many people in India who are excluded from traditional educational opportunities. The unit emphasizes the broader educational context in which efforts to integrate ICT and distance education must operate. The goal is to explore the potential impact of ICT on elementary school education, considering its different aspects, applications, challenges, and future possibilities. As the focus is on applying ICT to teaching and learning, hardware-related elements have been excluded.
